Most Rev. Dr.T.Sagayaraj DD

The Diocese of Thanjavur, along with its clergy, religious, and faithful, feels immensely happy and proud of its new bishop, Most Rev. Dr. T. Sagayaraj DD, who has brought a dynamic transformation to the diocese through numerous new initiatives in spiritual, pastoral, social, and educational fields.

While many religious figures, including bishops, are engaged in Spiritual, charitable and social works, it is rare to find a bishop actively involved in the direct promotion and welfare of Civil Service coaching centers. Civil Service coaching is a significant undertaking, requiring the dedication of directors, collaborators, and committed faculty. However, in the Diocese of Thanjavur, through the organization AMACE, one finds a bishop who is notably and directly involved in this area—a truly remarkable contribution.

Many dioceses and religious organizations support education and vocational training, indirectly benefitting civil service aspirants. But the direct involvement of Bishop T. Sagayaraj in promoting and supporting Civil Service coaching in the Thanjavur region is truly exceptional and inspiring.

Most Rev. Dr. T. Sagayaraj, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Thanjavur, was born on 14th March 1969 in Ayyampatty, in the Diocese of Tiruchirapalli. He studied Philosophy and Theology at Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee, Chennai, and was ordained a priest on 17th April 1996. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English and a Doctorate in Philosophy from Madras University.

The Diocese of Thanjavur, vibrant with strong faith and warm, friendly people, feels blessed to have such a shepherd. Bishop Sagayaraj brings to the diocese his unique competence and rich pastoral experience gained through various ministries and roles over the years, particularly from his service in the Diocese of Tiruchirapalli.

In the first year of his episcopal ministry, he has generously contributed his time, vision, and energy to the growth of the diocese. He continues to share the spiritual and moral vision of the Catholic Church with enthusiasm and dedication. A bishop is called to be a father to his people, a brother to his priests, and a living witness of Jesus Christ to the world—and Bishop Sagayaraj fulfills this mission with deep commitment.

One of his key initiatives is the founding of “AMACE – Arockia Madha IAS Academy for Competitive Exams”, which was inaugurated by His Excellency with the goal of empowering today’s youth and helping them achieve excellence. The academy aims to provide employability and a brighter future through preparation for UPSC, SSC, TNPSC, Banking, Railway, and other competitive exams.
